1. Fostering Mental Health and Wellbeing during Your PhD
Facilitated by: The Happy 9 to 5 (Eleni Giannakoudi and Tina Armasu)
This workshop by Eleni Giannakoudi and Tina Armasu from The Happy 9 to 5 focuses on fostering well-being and mental health during your PhD. It covers strategies for work-life balance, including time management, stress alleviation, and boundary setting. You will leave with practical tools to enhance your work-related well-being and navigate the challenges of academia.
2. Research Comics for Science Communication
Facilitated by: Ulrike Hahn
Creating a research comic can support sensemaking and convey messages to different audiences. This workshop teaches you to express research ideas through images and short texts in speech balloons and captions. Suitable for all researchers interested in visual storytelling, no artistic skills are required. You will be guided through the process, working from scratch with pen and paper or using provided templates. The goals are to communicate science compellingly, explore new science communication methods, and have fun.
3. Using Machine Learning to Detect Group Differences and Address Bias in Research
Facilitated by: Theo Bakker
In this workshop, Theo Bakker will present two applications of machine learning as a research tool, based on research from the Vrije Universiteit and The Hague University of Applied Sciences. The first case involves using machine learning to detect predictors of student success between students with and without autism. The second case focuses on identifying fairness issues in data across different student groups based on performance metrics of prediction models.
4. Navigating the Publishing Process: Insights and Tips for PhD Students
Facilitated by: Janna Cousijn
In this workshop, Janna Cousijn will explore the academic publishing process, sharing insights as a regional editor for the Addiction journal.
